The First Crush

It was early summer classes prior to the summer vacation and was probably the second or the third working day of the academic year. Morning 7‘0 clock – and it was time for the first lecture hour. There was a smile on every face in the class and everything around was fresh n brimming with life and enthusiasm. The class teacher Mr Jose - a young jolly and jocular south Indian with a remarkably distinguished tone which seemed quite amusing to the students was busy with the attendance register. There was a little buzz in the class with intermittent outbursts of laughter as he called out the roll list—reasons were obvious. In the midst of this scene she enters the class with a cute smile on her face, beautifully attired in the school uniform with a small black and shining plait moving to and fro with every step she took , highly enthused and with a big bag on her back which was probably a bit too big for her small shoulders.

She gave a bow and a sincere expression to Mr Jose who asked her name and other details, introduced her to the class and asked her to sit on one of the front seats which was still unoccupied. She was a new comer which was also the case with most of the students in the class who had changed their schools after finishing their fifth standard to join the missionary school which was considered to be one of the best in the town, the only difference being, for her it was the first day.

He was sitting on the first seat and she was just next to him. Soon after settling within the next few minutes she noticed this constantly smiling and yet sincere looking first bencher who was pretending to be too attentive even while the roll call was in progress. He too noticed her but being a shy introvert didn’t in any of his ways show any expressions of helping her. The very next moment she asked him “hii what’s your name?” and this was the initiation of a friendship the course of which neither of them knew. They talked a bit more during the classes and by the end of the day they figured out that they are gonna be good friends.

It was the evening time and he was back from school all set to go to the playground with some friends already standing with him outside his house and discussing something . There was a slingshot in one of his hands and an interesting discussion was in progress. They were chopping out the strategy to attack the orchard close by, dropping the idea of going to the playground that day. He was so much involved in the discussion that he could barely notice the street on his side and was completely oblivious to something interesting which was going to happen soon. All of a sudden Vishal one of his close friends gave him a punch and asked him to look up to the street. What he found was an old man with a uniform sort of dress riding a big 24 inch bicycle in full speed. But what was so interesting there? To his surprise it was the carrier of this old man’s bicycle which his friends couldn’t digest. Yes this was his new comer classmate waving at him and giving a very pleasant smile and of course a very pleasant surprise. As she passed by the first thing he thought was she must be living somewhere close by. And by this time his friends already had a nice n novel weapon to tease him because he seldom gave them any opportunity to do so.
